Sani-Pads Delivered to Girls in Kenya

This month, 104 girls and young women will each receive a zippered case with three Sani-Pads and four heavy duty safety pins (in case snaps come off), as well as three panties each. Saint John’s United Methodist Church's UWF members donated funds, cut the fabric, and sewed 312 pads which our member Nancy Lehmann-Carssow delivered to them at the Nkasioki Maasai school in Kenya the week of March 3, 2024.

This love put into action means these girls no longer have to stay home during their menstrual periods each month. The request for these items made by the school's male principal has now been granted. Six other UWF members have had the privilege of visiting this school in recent years.

Texas Legistlative Event

At the end of January the United Women in Faith sponsored the 37th annual Texas Legislative Event. There, over 200 women from across Texas participated in workshops and heard speakers regardingeconomic justice to support public schools and protect maternal health, how to support voting rights, statistics about Texas gun violence, climate change and immigration. The third day was spent visiting the Texas Capitol and meeting with legislators and their staff. I represented the Capital District at the Legislative Event.

Texas Impact is our state’s oldest and largest interfaith legislative network, representing more than 5 million Texans. Their mission is to provide a presence of religious social concern to the Texas Legislature, designed to influence public policy on behalf of the poor, the disadvantaged, and victims of discrimination. Texas Impact equips people of faith and conscience with information, opportunities, and outreach tools to educate their communities and engage with lawmakers on pressing public policy issues.

Capital District Leadership Training

We're sharing photos from our Leadership Development event on January 20, 2024. We are indebted to Toni and Emmanuel UMC for the terrific hospitality and lunch. Congratulations to Wesley United Methodist Church for the longest average tenure with United Women in Faith! Many thanks to our leaders and everyone for braving the cold! We had a great and generous response to our mission project for cold weather items for Emmanuel and we were able to bless those items for those who will benefit. Please share any photos you are comfortable sharing with us here and tag your unit or church's Facebook group if you have one! We know we didn't capture all the units represented.
